Burmor win Chris Dowd Memorial Shield football competition

Published on Saturday 11 August 2018

The inaugural Chris Dowd Memorial Shield football tournament took place on Saturday 11th August at Deepings Leisure Centre. 10 teams competed in two groups of 5, with the top 4 teams in each group qualifying for the knockout stages. Burmor required a penalty shootout in each of the quarter finals, semi finals and final of the competition to eventually emerge victorious. The photos below show the two finalists, Burmor Construction and Brook & Mayo, and the winning team holding the Chris Dowd Memorial Shield.

The tournament was organised in memory of Chris Dowd, who was both a Contracts Manager at Burmor Construction and a family member related to our family-run company, and who sadly died on Easter Sunday 2018 after a series of heart attacks. The tournament was in aid of the British Heart Foundation, and we are delighted to announce that over £1100 was raised on the day. We would like to thank the following companies who entered teams into the competition and contributed to the fund raising:

Aecom, Antares Installations, Attica, B-Safe Electrical Services, Bloom & Wake, Brook & Mayo, Burmor Construction, Floorspan Contracts, Grantham Ceilings and Interiors, MKM Building Supplies, Microbyte.

Donations are still welcome on the following website: http://celebration.bhf.org.uk/Celebration/In-memory-of-Chris-Dowd

Burmor will defend the trophy in the summer of 2019 when the tournament will next be held, and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year.

Charity football tournament this saturday

Published on Thursday 9 August 2018

The Chris Dowd Memorial Shield football tournament takes place this saturday at Deepings Leisure Centre, kicking off at 9am.

Chris Dowd was both a much-valued Contracts Manager at Burmor Construction and a well-loved family member related to our family-run company, who sadly passed away on Easter Sunday 2018 following a series of heart attacks.

Chris underwent a series of operations and was cared for at Papworth Hospital following his first heart attacks in the summer of 2017.

We are organising this tournament in aid of the British Heart Foundation and in memory of Chris.

12 teams will compete in the tournament which consists of a group stage followed by quarter and semi finals and then the final, with the winner claiming the Chris Dowd Memorial Shield.

Spectators are welcome on the day, and refreshments are available, with a proportion of the takings on the refreshments being donated to the charity.

Donations can also be made using the following link: http://celebration.bhf.org.uk/Celebration/In-memory-of-Chris-Dowd

Environmental Improvements commence at Westwood shopping precinct

Published on Thursday 9 August 2018

Improvements to the Hampton Court shopping precinct in Westwood have commenced, with the removal of the steel and timber canopies over the shopfronts, aimed at creating more open space. The photos below show the precinct before and after the canopies were removed.

These environmental improvements to the shopping precinct form part of our contract with Cross Keys Homes to design and build 16 new dwellings on a former car park site close to the shopping area. The improvements will continue with new surfacing to the pedestrian area and upgrades to the lighting and street furniture.

The project is due for completion in Autumn 2018.
