Creating Lasting Memories: Street Naming Ceremony at Norwood Road with Westwood Primary School

Last month, we were delighted to host a very special street naming ceremony at our Norwood Road development in March, where we welcomed pupils and staff from Westwood Primary School to reveal the names they had chosen for the new streets, back at the start of the project.

The initiative formed part of Westwood Primary’s core value of ‘Experiences’, aimed at providing their pupils with memorable and cultural opportunities that expand their understanding of the wider world. Working closely with the school, we invited the children to take part in a creative project where they imagined and selected street names that would stand the test of time — leaving a lasting legacy in their local community.

During the ceremony, the pupils proudly unveiled their chosen street names by tearing off the Marvel wrapping paper that initially covered them, with photo opportunities at each one with those involved in the selection process. We think the overall theme of the street names, going back to the roots of what existed before the build, was perfect use of imagination by the pupils.

This collaboration with Westwood Primary School is one of many ways we aim to involve the next generation in the places they’ll grow up in and call home.

We’d like to thank the staff and pupils at Westwood Primary for their creativity, enthusiasm, and for making this event a truly special occasion. Not only that, a special thank you goes to Alex Lowndes (site manager) for hosting us and making the working site safe for us to walk around and leading on the tour, along with Cameron Harris (QS) and Helen Buckingham (Accent) for initially visiting the school over a year ago to set this activity up and being a part of this day too.
