Affordable Housing: 56 Dwellings, Huntingdon

Client: Longhurst Group

These 56 very special new homes for Longhurst Group have been recognised as an award winning development. The site on California Road in Huntingdon won Social Housing Project of the Year and Timber Frame Project of the Year at the 2023 Structural Timber Awards.

The site comprises of a combination of 36 affordable rent, 10 shared ownership, and 10 rent to buy homes; a split of 1,2, and 4 bedroom flats and houses.

The scheme uses the ECO 200 MMC system, designed and manufactured by Walsall based, LoCal Homes. The ECO 200 panelised timber frame system is factory fitted with a cement board cladding and some of the units have feature brickwork panels.

The added benefit of the ECO 200 system is it minimises waste, and uses less carbon than a traditional build. The panels have 200mm of insultation between the inside and external face, giving them a low U value and reducing heating costs for the end user. Furthermore, the dwelling will be heated by a ground source heat pump system, which lowers energy bills for residents.

These have been in the making for some time and special thanks extend to our design partners at DT Architects UK / Leon M Delegate and Peter Dann Consulting Engineers for their hard work in bringing the design to fruition.

On a 2023 factory tour, Burmor witnessed first hand the California Road timber frame panels being made!

The site is being lead by Senior Quantity Surveyor, Ollie Crofts and Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Ciara Ruane-Fountain. The site manager for this project is Carl Green.
